MAR is a register with the highest standards of safety and security, being today the third EU register, providing total access to national and island cabotage, allows EU owners to comply with the Community Guidelines on State Aid to maritime transport (p. C13/7) in respect of tonnage tax schemes whereby at least 60% of their fleet must be under EU flags.
MAR registered Vessels will fly the Portuguese ensign and operate with the homeport “Madeira“, benefiting from a competitive tax regime for crews and also for Shipping companies operating within the Madeira International Business Centre MIBC.

Sale and Purchase of Vessels

Temporary registration
Bareboat charter in or out for a maximum of 5 years renewable; Possibility of cancelling temporary registration by mutual agreement before its termination.
Restrictions
Vessels over 15 years of age may be required an additional pre-survey depending on the track record of the ship owner and Vessel.
Vessels to be registered, MAR may delegate the initial survey to one of the following IACS members (exception made to Vessels over 15 years of age were an additional pre-register survey may be requested).
