Registration Requirements & Restrictions

Legal documentation required for permanent registration

1. Power of Attorney Power of attorney granted by the applicant to a local legal representative Applicable when the domicile or the head office of the applicant is located outside the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Made under the requirements inserted in article 11º, 2, of the Decree Law nº 96/89 of 28 March Original or authenticated copy with the signatures duly recognized by Notary in the presence, certifying the authority for the act

2. ID of the applicant

2.1 If the applicant is an individual (I.D. or Passport)

2.2 If the applicant is a corporate entity original or certified copy of its articles of association and commercial register certificate.

2.3 If the applicant is a corporate entity duly licensed to operate within the Free Trade Zone of Madeira copy of the license and register permanent code.

3. Bill of Sale With the signatures duly recognized by a Notary in the presence, certifying the authority for the act. (Original or certified copy)

4. Certificate issued by the previous registry Original or authenticated copy issued for less than 6 months

5. Deletion Certificate Original or authenticated copy issued for less than 6 months, it can be temporarily replaced by an official document confirming that the deletion has been requested to the previous registration entity.

6. Permission granted by the mortgagee(s)

In case of any mortgage – Original or authenticated copy with the signature duly recognized by a Notary certifying the authority for the act.
The documents for the vessel permanent registration must be translated into Portuguese /Certified Translation (Translation can be provided by BBRIDGES). The legal documents must be legalized with International Hague Apostille or, alternatively, legalized before the local Portuguese Consulate, once that without this procedure the referred documents cannot be used in Portugal.

Technical documentation required

1. Passenger ship safety certificate.

2. Cargo ship safety equipment certificate.

3. Cargo ship safety radio certificate.

4. Exemption certificate.

5. Ship station license (radio license).

6. List of radio equipment and other auxiliary navigation equipment.

7. Name of the entity responsible for the payment of the radio accounts, which must be an entity recognized by the Portuguese authorities.*

8. Cargo ship safety construction certificate.

9. International load line certificate (1966), if the ship to be registered is a cargo ship.

10. International oil pollution prevention certificate (IOPP).

11. International pollution prevention certificate for the carriage of liquid substances in bulk.

12. Certificate of class (hull and machinery).

13. International certificate of fitness for the carriage of liquefied gases in bulk.

14. International certificate of fitness for the carriage of dangerous chemicals in bulk.

15. Certificate of insurance or other financial security in respect of civil liability for oil pollution damage (CLC).

16. Declaration of P&I inscription (Blue Card).

17. International tonnage certificate (1969).

18. Manning Certificate.

19. Statement of Compliance with ILO 92 and 133.

20. Ship’s general arrangement plan.

21. Fire control and lifesaving appliances plan.

22. Approved Stability Booklet.

Technical information

1. Maker and model of the automatic pilot.

2. Communications system. Maker and model: Bridge/prow – Brodge/stern

3. Main engine place, year of construction and name of the shipbuilder Quantity, Type, Model, Serial number, Maximum power HP;

4. Auxiliary engines (generators) quantity, type and rated power

5. Winches, capstans, etc (mooring devices) / maker and model Quantity –prow; Quantity –stern

6. Statement of initial survey issued by the classification society.*

7. Proof of the payment of the official register fees.

8. Proposal for the ship capacity

9. Two colored photos of the vessel.

10. Entity responsible for Telecommunications, notably by one of the following entities:
